Lost Photos

Recently, I took beautiful photos, which I met to upload them. However, the motherboard of my computer that I was using broke down. If I put the hard disk into a computer and treat like an additional storage device, maybe I can retrieve them back. I haven’t try that before and I have to persuade my dad to do because I have no experience in playing with computer parts.

I find some of the tips useful. I am speaking from my personal experience. Wearing revealing clothes will get you picked up but is dependent on the place where you are in. Being strange will deter people too (yes it will). However, I find it hard to abide to all the tips. I am not a very sociable person but I find it hard not to socialise at all.

Weekly blogging kicks in this week as a new school year has began. I am a little sad because this marks my final year in school. School life is the best as compared to the working life. For instance, the working world doesn’t grant holidays as generously as the school does.

No bunny but there's a sheep

Skip this paragraph if you know about Summer Choice 2009. Creator Stamp Rally (CSR), now known as Summer Choice 2009, is an event when customers and stores win. Customers spend 100l or above in the participating stores to collect a stamp card. After they got the stamp card, they visit every participating store to obtain stamps for the stamp card. Stamping is free. Then, the customer can use the stamp card to obtain a prize.

Last winter, **DP** yumyum's prize for Creator Stamp Rally (CSR), now known as Summer Choice 2009 is a bunny avatar which I adore a lot. I didn't manage to get the bunny avatar as the event was over by the time I knew about it.

This summer, I thought I will have a chance. But no, **DP** yumyum's prize is now a sheep avatar.

I feel sad but I am interested to see how everyone is going to react to the sheep avatar. :)

Designers for Mother / Daughter SLGW Hunt

The organizers of the Mother / Daughter SLGW Hunt are looking for designers to contribute the prizes for the hunt. SLGW stands for Second Life Grid-wide Hunt (me thinks :)). Here is the information that I get from the notecard:

“Hello Designer,
I am contacting you to see if you would be interested in participating in the first annual mother / daughter SLGW Hunt. This hunt will focus on spending time with one another. A time for the moms and daughters to go out and shop together.

This hunt will be organized so that the order will go adult shop then child shop and so on and so fourth. If for some reason we have more adult shops then kid shops or vice versa, i will have all of the shops that we have more of listed last that didn't have a matching shop.

There is no fee to participate, but I will be making sure that each item is not a freebie item and that it is of the same quality as the higher priced items in your shop. This is to keep the customers coming back for more.

I have a (SL) dream

As I grow up in SL, I realize the importance of SL home ownership. You can set your home in a place (e.g. infohub) but if it don't feel like a home (no apartment, nobody you can talk to etc.), it is not a home to you. However, owning a home is pretty expensive. Even if one don't own land and incurs land costs, the rental cost can set one back by L$100 per week.

For newbies, they could get a free home at Starting Point (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Moodle/119/208/27). However, there is no free or cheap home for persons who have never own a home before and are not newbies. Hence, I have a dream to have a piece of land for such people. These people will stay at the land for a few months to experience what it is like to have a home. The rental fee will be L$10 per week or something like that. This is so that the needy residents will find it affordable to own a home.

Because I have no intention to use real money to finance my SL life, I currently have about L$5,000 in my SL account. The money is probably not enough to realise the dream in the long term. However, I hope that I can earn more $ in my spare time to attain my dream. I also hope to find free and/or cheap places to stay so that I could recommend these places.

Beautiful Day

A beautiful day is one when everything is going smoothly. I get what I want. The sun is shining but not scorching. It is soothing to the skin and to the eyes. There could be rain to make my day cooling.

Boring? Unfulfilling? Maybe so but I would like my life to be like this 90% of the time. The remaining 10% will be for an adventure.

Love Friday - I love bears!

I love bears a lot a lot a lot! I also love cats but that is another story.

When i was a kid /baby, I keep yelling to my parents that i want a bear that i see in the shopping centre. My parents couldn’t stand it and bought me my first bear. This starts my love affair with bears. Till now, I still have my first bear. It is very special to me because she is my first friend.

There is also another bear I love. Panda! There is a new movie made about a panda and an orphan. It is a Chinese movie by Disney and Castle Hero Pictures. The movie is called "Trail of the Panda". What is so special about the movie is that they use real pandas in the movie!

I believe the movie will also be shown in English because there is a English trailer for it as well. Enjoy!

My profile states that I will blog about my opinions in real life. However, so far, most of my blogging is dedicated to Second Life. Even when I do talk about real life, it is probably work, studies and a need to take time off the computer.

In reality, I do have a interesting real life. I would like to share my real life musings here but I have Second Life posts that I plan to write and haven't got around doing so.

I like the bear fitted on the bicycle. Now I can travel with the bear.

Two reasons why I choose the room that I am now staying.



1. I love the mat! It is not too girlish and boyish. In addition, I love black and white patterns/dots. I know it don't look nice from the picture but it looks good at my room.



2. The view from the window.

The rooms are now fully rented. Yesterday and today, I got the chance to meet some of my neighbours. I get shy easily so I spend most of time inside my room. Overall, I like my room very much. The only downside is that the room is located above the store and near the club (for kids) so it can be laggy at times. However, the room is free so I am not complaining. :)

I have a home!

Yesterday (Friday SL time), I got a group notice from * Cartoon Kids *of free rooms above its store. Ever since my exams are over, I always want a house of my own. Although I couldn’t set home at the place that I stay but it is free! Paty was kind to install a script on each door so that only the authorized person can enter the room. The rooms are also well-furnished and there is a bed for one to sleep.

I am not showing any pictures cos if you are interested, you could visit the place. The rooms are really beautifully decorated for kids and there is a playroom in the middle for kids to interact and play.

Before I leave SL, there are some rooms available so if you have a kid avatar, you can come down to take a look.

How to see bots

The academic results are gonna be released soon. Pray Pray.

I received a notecard from a member (who should be Ralphie Saeed) from Camper United group. It teaches one how to see bots.

What is a bot? According to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bot, a bot is an avatar which is controlled by a machine, rather than by a human.

"1st.
Turn on advanced settings if you have not.
ctrl+alt+d.

2nd.
Go to debug settings, change avatarcompositelimit to -1 or lower.
Any avatar that rezzes completely grey exculding prim objects is running a non-graphical client or a client that doesn't load textures from thier pc's harddrive. This includes bots and non-graphical clients. A picture of a bot being revealed by this debug setting is attached with this information. If one wishes to see it, just join Camper United to get the notecard or IM me for the notecard.

3rd.
Go to debug settings, change renderunloadedavatar to true. This forces those little grey balls to take a shape, even if its ruthed, till it loads one from hard drive or becomes grey.

Camp Owners

Bots and non-graphicals can easily answer floating text and drop down questiosn that are on the primary prim, updating your camp master to 2.04 helps by using the floating text feature. Benches are manipulatable as are fastcamps.

If you want to have a person come in and teach you more about the bots and help you learn to sweep or sweep for you(for a fee), Contact Ralphie Saeed of the Merchant's Protective League.

Me: The snow stops. Look.

Me: Ah Bear, look, there is a noodle stall out there. I gonna sell to sell mee there.





Me: Look, Ah Bear, see how I cook the mee. I look very skilled!

Little Bear: Ya. Not bad.

Love Friday! - 1st day of the month

This is the first of two posts about what I love. As entitled, I will write about what I love on a Friday. This idea is derived from bloggers who have been doing this since last month.

On the first day of every month, exactly at 12pm, the church’s bells will ring. I love it when this happens. It makes a normal day less mundane and reminds me that one month has passed – What have I done so far?

Do other countries/places have similar or this kind of tradition? I am interested to know. Welcome comments if you happen to read this.

250L Joining Fee

In order to give the group gifts to genuine members, designers impose 250L joining fee. To elaborate, designers have found that some persons join their groups just for the group gifts. They found that these persons left the groups after they received the group gifts. To prevent this, they impose the joining fee. In consideration of the fee (meaning in return for one paying the fee), they give lots of group gifts. This is why groups with joining fee imposed generally received more group gifts compared to groups who have no joining fee imposed.

Since we know the root cause of the joining fee, can we resolve it so that fewer designers will impose the fee? I have some ideas but I am not sure whether they will work.

1. Join the group, get the gift and stay

If one likes the designer’s designs very much, he or she will be enticed to stay in the group. Besides, it is not just the gifts that one receives but notices of sales, new releases and so on.

What if you really have to leave the group?

If you like the group, try not to leave it unless your 25 group limit is met and you want to join a new group.

Before you leave the group, check that the group gift(s) have disappeared in the group notices. The group gift will disappear in the next 15 days from its date of release. If the group gift is given out in the store and requires the group tag to be activated, give it a month from the date of release of the group gift before you leave the group. Sometimes, the group gift is left indefinitely in the store. One month is still sufficient for such group gifts because the designer will normally notifies members of the group gift only once, which is when it is released.

Leave the group when the above paragraph is satisfied.

I follow this practice because I feel that in return for the group gifts received, one should return the favour by at least staying in the group. This is why designers give group gifts in the first place – to get one to stay in the group, learn about their products and hopefully buy their products. In addition, the chance of many members leaving the group at the same time is lowered.

2. Check that groups permit free open enrolment before leaving group

This is to prevent one from leaving a group which is closed to the public or leaving a group which has imposed a joining fee.

3. Get Alts to join groups that you couldn’t join

If you have alts, get them to join groups that you couldn’t join due to the 25 group limit. This will prevent you from leaving groups.

Is there such thing as SLebrity?

SLebrity stands for SL celebrity. Since I talk about SLebrity tank in the previous post, I think I will talk about SLebrity as well. I believe there is such thing as SLebrity.

There are persons who are well-known and adored by many. According to Concise Oxford dictionary software I use, a celebrity is a famous person or the state of being famous. Since these persons fit into this definition, they are SLebrities.

On the other hand, I believe that whether a person is popular or not depends on the eyes of the beholder. If A don’t think there is anything special about the person or don’t adore him or her, the person will not be considered a SLebrity to A even though B may think otherwise.

I used to adore a blogger a lot. I read her blog and was so excited when I got to see her face to face. I was also initially hesitant to comment on her blog as I wanted to wait for the best moment to comment. Crazy, right. Now, I still adore her but not in the same crazy manner. It is the same for RL artistes too.

There is definitely a group of people or individuals that are SLebrities. We don’t call them by that name but in a way they are famous as everyone knows them. Who are they? Of course, they are the Lindens. Some Lindens are also well known as individuals. However, as Lindens are equivalent to your service provider cum the government, I guess no one will call them SLebrities. I don’t as well.

After writing this post, I realize the same can be said for RL celebrities. Whether there is such thing as a celebrity depends on the beholder. Because I am the kind that adores RL and SL persons, I believe there is such thing as SLebrity.

I have decided that as long as I am playing FabFree Flickr Contest, I would continue to wear the Fabfree gift of the month. In fact I find it fun to find clothes to match the jewellery.

I start wearing no shoes and no hair again! I really love doing that as I dont have to spend time finding shoes and hair to wear. Ok, back to the main topic.

I read the the RL site and I thought it was funny and kinda sad that such things happen to people. Hopefully, the sl version takes off.

Post when i rattle on

This is my last post before my exams. My exams haven't start yet but I thought I just take an early break. I know this sounds kinda odd especially since I haven't blog often.

Things that I have done/learnt since my last blog post:

1. Clear my projects and assignment. Left with 1 quiz, 1 project presentation, 1 class presentation and 1 report

2. Learn a lot about marketing and realise I know nothing about the real world. I am stay-home person so I haven't gotten to know things that YOUNG PEOPLE will know.

3. Like a crazy tax teacher. He is funny. He teaches well but he likes to talk about irrelevant stuff.

4. Spend less time in SL and reading SL blogs. The major reason is because I am too busy but I certainly hope to make this a reality. Reason: refer to 2.

5. Sleep at 1.30am every day. Hopes today can be an exception.

Clearing up blog & Flickr

Hi there! Sorry I make it look it like the blog is never updated. I meant to update the blog but it is either I don't have the time or I don't know what to write.

Thinking back, I have deleted 2 blog posts before. One was the first post I wrote when I first started the blog. The other was a post about a contest that was already over, thus I thought I may as well delete it. Now, I regret deleting my first post. I plan to write a new one but then I realise I couldn't bring back the spirit and the words of my maiden post. Hence, I decide to leave it as such since I can't un-delete the maiden post.

Clearing up blog & Flickr

I decide to every now and then clear up my blog posts and my Flickr photostream. This is because my Flickr photostream could only show up to 200 photos at one time. I don't like the idea that my old favourite photos got pushed back. Hence, I delete the ones that I don't like that much. This of course involves me deleting the related blog posts cos all my photos are uploaded to Flickr for the purpose of blogging.

Due to all these clearing up, I wonder when I will hit my 100th post. Haha.

Thoughts about fashion show and magic show

Fashion show

The winter black swan fashion show was great. I love the zaara gown that was showcased in the show. However, I find some of the models there are too thin. Scary.

Magic Show

I came slightly late for the magic show. Later, I heard that the turnout for the show was a record high. Although I was watching the show, I had no idea what was going on. It was towards the end of the show that I realised that I had to activate voice chat to hear what people were saying! Haha

Today marks the last day of my daily posts (ok, almost daily posts). From next week onwards, I will post weekly and focus less on SL (cos play it less often).

I have tried making my own skin. It is fun and one can export the demo to one's email or just save the textures to disk. To export a finished skin (with full permission rights), one has to purchase a valid passcode from the Mirrorlab kisok. Currently, one can only create female skins but male skins are also up and coming.

Recap of 2008

2008 has been a good year on an overall basis. I started my first blog during that year. Although the blog is still a mess ie. I don't know the direction of my blog, I guess I stick my strategy of writing anything I want. I hope in the future year, I find the true purpose of my blog.

2009 didn’t start very well. I just got sore throat and flu now. Sigh
